Kylie to recieve OBE from Queen Elisabeth

28. June 2008

Kylie will be awarded her OBE from the Queen during a glitzy ceremony at Buckingham Palace next week. She found out in December that she was to receive the prestigious honour for her services to the music industry.

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman confirmed Kylie will be presented with her OBE at Buckingham Palace on Thursday.

However she will miss out on meeting the Queen, who will be in Edinburgh for the Scottish cultural event known as Holyrood week.

Kylie is instead expected to be presented with her OBE by Prince Charles and she is expected to be among a group of about 100 people who will be presented with various honours in Buckingham Palace’s grand ballroom.

When the Queen’s New Year honours were announced in late December, Kylie was holidaying with her family in her home town of Melbourne.

At the time, she said she was “deeply touched” to receive an OBE from the country she calls her adopted home.

“I am almost as surprised as I am honoured to be awarded an OBE by Her Majesty the Queen,” Kylie said.

“I feel deeply touched to be acknowledged by the UK, my adopted home, in this way.

“This last year I have felt so much love and support from everyone as I took greater steps back into the public domain, and it is with absolute gratitude and joy that I say farewell to 2007 and look forward to what the New Year will bring.”

Kylie’s OBE caps off more than two decades of massive success for her.

She went on to enjoy massive success in Britain, where she teamed up with hit producers Stock, Aitken and Waterman.

Since then she has released nine studio albums and sold out six world tours.

Kylie kicked off the UK leg of her X2008 tour in Belfast yesterday.

She is yet to announce tour dates for Australia.
