Nick Cave on Kylie

08. May 2008 0 Comments

IT’S not often you hear the dark prince of rock, Nick Cave, deliver a glowing endorsement. But one of the most esteemed musicians in Australia has come out for Kylie.

Cave has traded his snarling cave-man charm for adoring appreciation.

Cave delivered a glowing review when asked his thoughts on the singer, with whom he collaborated on the 1996 hit Where the Wild Roses Grow.

“Kylie Minogue is the greatest thing that has happened to Australian music,” Cave told Cream magazine.

“Before her the world didn’t have a clue about our music nor any interest in it. Kylie has more greatness in her little fingernail than every Aussie indie band put together.” The man has spoken.

Kylie´s tour kicks off

Kylie has kicked off her long-awaited tour with ex-boyfriend Olivier Martinez in the audience.

The French actor – who split from the singer in February 2007 – joined 10,000 fans at Paris’ Bercy Stadium, in France, at the opening night of ‘KylieX2008′.

An onlooker said: “Olivier looked on very proudly as Kylie wowed fans with the show, which was spectacular.”

Kylie – who recently denied claims she had rekindled her romance with Olivier, insisting they were just friends - opened the show above the stage in a full-length purple gown amid green wires in a gold hoop as she performed Speakerphone from her latest album ‘X’.

As well as singing a host of her classic hits including Can’t Get You Out Of My Head and Step Back In Time, she thrilled the crowd with her own version of Barry Manilow’s Copacabana.

The tour has cost over £10 million to stage and includes 53 dates across Europe, concluding with a six-night residency at London’s O2 arena ending in August.

It is her first full tour since being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005.

Kylie – who on Monday (05.05.08) was pronounced a Knight in the Order of Arts and Letters in France – recently revealed she was counting down the days until the tour started.

She said: “The countdown has begun!! Not long now before opening night for ‘KylieX2008′!!!!

“My cast, crew and I have been working hard to really make this show ’spectacular’ for you. Full production rehearsals are coming up and we are very excited to merge all the various elements of the show.”

Kylie’s famously petite feet followed in the footsteps of some pretty big names this week – Ella Fitzgerald, T. S. Eliot, Bob Dylan and Robert Redford – as she received France’s highest cultural honour, the Order of Arts and Letters. Paris in the springtime loves Kylie, and the feeling has long been mutual. This was the city she decided to make her home in the months after her breast cancer was diagnosed. Twenty-four hours before this opening night of her world tour, Caroline Albanel, the French Culture Minister, declared that the singer was a “Midas of the international music scene who turns everything she touches into gold”.

Kylie, who is well-known for her stunningly dramatic costume changes, donned a fuchsia kimono, white foundation and vivid pink eyeshadow for the transformation.

KylieX2008 is the her first major world tour since her battle with breast cancer. The £10 million show will see her performing in Greece, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, Luxembourg, Russia, Latvia and Spain, and has already taken over half a million in sales.

The tour begins on 6 May in Paris, and moves to the UK in June at the Belfast Odyssey Arena before moving to Glasgow, Newcastle and Manchester ending at the O2 Arena in London.

Meanwhile, Kylie is said to have abandoned plans to crack America after her latest attempt failed.

She reportedly told a friend: ‘I gave it my best shot. I won’t try again.’

Kylie hit the US promotional trail hard, and appeared on numerous US shows to promote her album X, including The Today Show, Dancing With The Stars, The Ellen DeGeneres Show and The Late Late Show.

But, despite her attempts, the record All I See sold only 6,000 copies and debuted at number 139 on the US Billboard charts.

KYLIE MINOGUE’s Australian fans helped give the pop star a much-needed boost during her cancer battle by refusing to give up their tickets for her cancelled concerts.

Kylie would be a great mother

25. April 2008 0 Comments

Former pop star Kerry Katona says Kylie Minogue would make a great mother.

The comments followed an announcement by Minogue that she may never settle down and have a family.

Minogue, 40, told a magazine, “I never had the feeling of a conventional marriage with a terraced house in the suburbs.”

She even doubted if having children would be the right decision for her and pointed at how icons like Debbie Harry and Dolly Parton had managed to have great careers without having families.

Katona, however, believes Minogue could do better and should consider having a family and not make her career her top priority.

She said: “I just hope she won’t grow old lonely.”
